Isatis tinctoria. This herb is the one that our ancestors used as a dye plant for cloth and wool. It produes an indigo blue dye and was the one that Scots used on the battlefield. The last known harvest of this plant in the UK was in Lincolnshire so we have to have this plant in our nursery for those reasons alone.
