Ocimum basilicum var. Purpurascens. This is a lovely form of basil with with dark purple leaves that are often splashed with green. This form of basil is mostly used for terrific pesto sauces and is superb as topping for white fish when combined with tomato. As with all basil only put outside when the night time temperate is above 10°. We also find it better to keep basil a spot where there is either morning or afternoon sun. If it sits in full sun all day they tend to wilt. Just like us they need a breather from the hot sun.
