Wild Garlic | Allium ursinum. Lovely woodland plant that is becoming more and more popular with chefs. Foraging for this plant comes with a warning as you must have the land owners permission. You can grow in your own patch but always keep containers. Use a 30cm pot for every 3 plants. This plant loves to spread and this is done underground when the bulbs split to make more plants. The fresh leaves can be used to make pesto, soup or blend with butter for a delicious garlic butter. Height 15cm. Part shade. Good for bees. Each pot has one bulb which has leaf and it rooted, ready to plant and harvest.
Medicinally it is the bulbs that is used medicine, being one of the key ingredients in tonics for rheumatic problems and high cholesterol.
