Berberis thunbergii atropurpurea

Japanese Barberry. Often used a screen or informal hedge. Small sharp thorns run the length of the stems which make it a great natural security screen. Deciduous so will loose it's leves over winter but the dark purple leaves turn a vibrant red in the winter before they drop. Red tinted, pale yellow flowers cover the shrub in mid-spring which are followed by glossy red autumn fruit. Height 1m & Spread 2.5m, so requires minimal pruning.
