Stipa gigantea

This is an evergreen or semi-evergreen robust clump-forming grass. It is a long-lived species with narrow green leaves about 75cm. Throughout the summer, upright stems bear bristle-like, silver-purple flowers in large, open panicles up to 20cm long. Height 2.5m. Takes around 5 years to reach full maturity. Do not cut back stipa but comb through to remove any dead foliage, this should be done in February.
